Over four years in the making, The Past Is A Present project celebrates the lives of 28 Gloucester, MA, seniors, affectionately branded as “The Gloucester 28.” The undertaking culminated in the publication of The Past Is A Present book.

The website served as the prelaunch, pre-order and fundraising platform for the book. Housing commissioned photographs and personal images provided by the seniors, along with the evolving history of the project and “the 28” blog, the site piqued the interest and the curiosity of participants, family, friends and donors throughout the book’s journey to publication.

Visually, the juxtaposition of past and present is the basis for the branding which focuses on a mix of old and current imagery. The typography melds old style and modern fonts. The color palette intermixes colors found in old photographs with variations of blues from the seaport town. The present icon serves as both a visual pun and as a tease in the prelaunch materials.

Marketing collateral for prelaunch included posters, flyers and pinbacks distributed locally at community events, restaurants and bookstores. Additional materials included ad placements and placards on public transportation. Social media campaigns were developed for Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

  The Past Is A Present  is a 250+ page book designed with seniors in mind. Large print throughout aids readability and hundreds of photos engage memories. All of the proceeds from the book support the Gloucester senior community.
